As with any social media site, your profile picture is one of the first things businesses or potential employers/employees are going to see, so make sure it's clear and up-to-date.
Your headline needs to be good
Your headline is just underneath your profile photo and needs to answer these three things; what do I do, who do I do it for, what do they get. Sometimes, it's a quick 5 second glimpse at a profile and that's all someone needs. Make it clear.
Your experience section needs to be detailed
Think of this part as a CV that anyone can access at any time. It's an online CV so, make sure it's detailed yet specific. If you're looking for a job, employers will be looking at this so make sure you're specific about what you've accomplished in your roles, as well as talking about key responsibilities and successes.
Grow your network
You can grow your network by connecting with people. Connect with people you know and grow your own personal community. It's also always good to send a note along with your invite so people know who you are and why you're wanting to connect with them.
Engage with your followers
It's social media so you're supposed to engage and interact with people! Comment on posts of people you're following; scroll down your feed and comment on relevant posts. This not only builds your community, but also helps to get your profile and page seen on LinkedIn because the platform knows you're doing what it wants you to do...being social!
Use the LinkedIn search function
LinkedIn's search function allows you to find and connect with professionals in your industry. You can do this by using keywords; enter relevant keywords into the search bar to find people and content related to your industry.
Hopefully those steps will get you started on your LinkedIn journey!
