Power Group to Powerhouse: This Is What Happens When Brilliant Women Collaborate

by Ros Conkie on 13th Jun 2025

So, what do you do when you're spending over £10k a month on marketing... and you've got no real idea if it's actually doing anything?

That was the position Martin Claridge was in - founder of Premier Veins, a network of clinics offering private varicose vein treatments. Excellent at what he does. But when his accountant pointed out that marketing was his single biggest monthly expense, he suddenly realised: he had no visibility, no metrics, and no idea whether any of it was delivering.

Martin was introduced to me by James White, a member of We Mean Biz. And in March 2024, he asked me the question I hear all too often: "Can this be done better?"

Spoiler: Yes. Yes, it can.

The Power of Collaboration (and a Seriously Good Power Group)

I could have brought in an agency or offered a done-for-you package. But that’s not how I work. And honestly? Martin didn’t need a generic solution.

He needed clarity. Strategy. And a team of specialists who were brilliant at what they do and could plug into a much bigger, joined-up machine.

Enter: the Women Mean Biz Marketing & Creatives Power Group.

We’re not just a networking group. We meet six times a year, and we’ve built deep trust and real collaboration. So when this project landed, I didn’t have to go hunting for freelancers. I already had the team.

All WMB members. All Power Group pros:

  • Tori Thomas - who audited and rebuilt Martin’s Google Ads account from the ground up.

  • Vik Martin, aka The WordPress Nurse - who migrated and streamlined Martin’s websites, then built a new one from scratch.

  • Vicki Gray at Blu Mango - who designed a warm, modern site that truly reflects the patient experience.

  • Jenny Stewart - who captured beautiful photography of Martin’s team and clinics.

  • Yasmin McGlashan and Cherry Pullinger from Pink Spaghetti - who came in later to handle PR and raise the profile.

And me? I was the Marketing Director - developing the strategy, pulling the team together, and making sure everything stayed focused on what would actually work.

The Results?

  • Martin grew from 5 to 7 clinics in under a year.

  • He went from blind spending to confident investment - and actually increased his marketing budget.

  • He’s now ranking in the top 3 on Google for nearly all his key local terms.

  • And he’s got a team of experts delivering results - with none of the management headache.

Why This Worked So Well

Because it wasn’t about outsourcing. It wasn’t about ego. It wasn’t about selling a service for the sake of it or because I had someone on payroll who needed a job.

It was about trust, clarity, and choosing the right people for the job - based on what would get the best results.

This worked because every single person on that team was someone I’d already collaborated with, supported, and trusted through the Power Group. We already knew how to work well together - and it showed.

Final Thought

WMB didn’t just give me a referral. It gave me a marketing team.

If you're a Women Mean Biz or We Mean Biz member and you’re not leaning into your Power Group... this is your nudge.

And if you’re a business owner looking for a team of experts who work together like a well-oiled machine - you know where to find us.
