Tracey Rickard Web Design

I am a freelance web designer and developer based in Somerset. I create bespoke WordPress websites for my clients in the UK and across the world.

A bit about me...

There is nothing that I love more than walking my dog in the beautiful countryside around. We live on the border of Dorset and Somerset in a little stone cottage with a gorgeous garden. I have discovered I am quite a keen gardener and I still really enjoy my photography. Dinner with friends is a great way to spend an evening but obviously must include a cold glass of prosecco. Day to day you can’t beat builder’s tea and the odd bag of jelly babies to keep you going!

Recommendations

"We are all absolutely delighted with the website, and to see it live today is just…out of this world! I wanted to connect because I am so very grateful on seeing the outcome, and especially for your patience throughout the process."

Recommended by Dee Pfeiffer, Michael Jackson's Legacy

"Tracey designed my website and I can thoroughly recommend her. She is great at explaining things, even to a technophobe like me."

Recommended by Tanya Page, Children's Author

"Am admiring the huge improvement of the Maris website that Tracey has done for us. It finally looks corporate and grown up… Well done Tracey!! Just for info – look at the stats for Maris. Despite the new site only being active for less than a month there has been a big increase in activity. This site is so much better than the old one in every way!"

Recommended by Andrew Fimister, Maris Africa

"We are all so pleased with the new website, it’s really colourful and gives us lots of opportunities to help and encourage the children. You have fulfilled the brief perfectly and we’re so grateful. "

Recommended by Carolyn Pyke, Hereford & Worcester Dyslexia Association

"Thank you so much for all of your hard work in completing this website so quickly. You always go that extra mile and it really is appreciated. I hope that you are happy with it too. Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts. Wishing you continued success with your fabulous business. Everyone who works with you is very fortunate to be able to tap into your amazing talent."

Search Engine Keywords - The Long Tail Story

by Tracey Rickard on 13th Dec 2023

We all need some ways to get ahead of our competition on Google and other search engines and we shouldn't under estimate the value of the long tail keyword!  What on earth is that? Giving some thought to the right keywords...

A bit more about me

What's the most enjoyable thing about your work?
When the client absolutely loves the work I have done for them!

What is your vision for your business?
To continue to be successful but raise my business profile and good reputation even further.

If you could give one single piece of advice to a new start up business, what would it be?
Don't immediately invest in a new website! Yes I am talking myself out of work there but a new website is a big investment and Google indexing takes a lot of time. Many people rely on Google for their business but there are quicker ways to get recognised and it need not cost a penny, Facebook pages can be shared amongst friends and you can pretty soon find yourself with a great audience; the same can be said for all social channels.

Which business person or company do you admire most and why?
I admire a lady called Shelley Wilson, when I first met her she was writing a book. She is now a best selling author with many titles under her belt. She has also taken to public speaking. She constantly moves beyond her comfort zone and makes it look easy!

Which one phrase or quote sums up your attitude to business life?
Listen to your clients.

What made you join WMB and how do you plan to make the most of the network?
I wanted to mix with like minded women, to enjoy their company but also to learn from them. I suffer a bit with cabin fever in my job and I benefit hugely from getting out and enjoying the company of the group.

What do you do at week-ends?
Walk, cook and garden! I have a chocolate labrador so walking with him is my absolute pleasure.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 2 luxury items would you take?
I have absolutely no idea, my phone or some sort of tech probably and my pyjamas! I should probably say something clever like a boat, haha.

What book are you currently reading?
I don't really get time to read, I am always learning with my work - I am a bit of a TV person in the evenings rather than reading.

What book(s) would you recommend?
Birds without Wings.

Who's your personal hero and why?
No brainer - my Mum. She brought us up virtually on her own, she worked full-time and had to cycle 30 minutes there and back every day. I remember seeing her coming up the road on her bike in the snow when I was a little kid, I felt sad but at the same time recognised that she had real guts. We never had any money but we had such happy times with her and learned how to live without stuff. She was funny and full of love, she never complained, I miss her every single day.

What is your worst experience in business or work?
The client who let me down one day before the job started, losing me a month's earnings.

What was your first ever job?
Office administrator.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?
A little stretch of river with a big willow tree just down from the theatre in Stratford upon Avon. I grew up in Stratford and I have always loved this place, it's my place and has been since I was a teenager. If I see someone else sitting there I feel a bit miffed, that's rare though as it is a out of the way place.
