A bit about me...

I take great delight in wearing my mortality with pride. I originally trained as a state registered nurse, have an MA in the Rhetoric and Rituals of Death, and a second MA in Creative Writing (distinction). I was an honorary researcher for Dr Peter Fenwick’s five-year retrospective study into end-of-life experiences through the Clinical Division of Southampton University and am the author of several books on death, dying and mortality, including The D-Word, talking about Dying, Sex,Meaning and the Menopause and Nearing the End of Life: a guide for relatives, friends and carers, which has been translated into six languages.

For many years I worked as a psychotherapist, specialising in trauma, end of life, bereavement, and grief. I have facilitated numerous Death Cafes in many different settings and am a speaker, workshop leader, and podcast host for Embracing Your Mortality.  My lastest book, Living Fully, Dying Consciously, came out in 2020 and during 2021 I published two early years picture books which help young children and adults to talk together about death and dying.
