Travel Counsellors

I am a fully independent travel consultant based in Wiltshire with links in Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire.

A bit about me...

I was born in the beautiful city of Bath, grew up in rural Somerset and now live on the outskirts of Chippenham with my partner, having moved here to be with him a few years ago. We love being based on the edge of the Cotswolds in glorious countryside with such iconic sightseeing right on our doorstep.

Whatever a client looks for in their perfect trip, I can bring the dream to life by building it around the things they value most. I have organised trips for solo travellers, couples, families and groups, and worked extensively with business travellers.  I have experience in organising travel which combines culture, sports and sightseeing in stunning destinations, two-centre holidays combining locations such as the Caribbean and USA, city mini-breaks, family villa and beach/sun holidays, walking holidays in Europe, all-inclusive luxury island escapes, private adventure tours and more. Your perfect trip can be anything you want it to be, and I can build itineraries around your requirements.

I believe that the travel experiences you have and the memories you make from them should be positive, fulfilling and enrich your life and your well-being.  If they do that, then they will become part of the person you are. In the words of Anita Desai, “wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow”, so to enable others to have those experiences, and to help plan and map out their travel ambitions gives me much satisfaction.

"I rang Sharon immediately Portugal was removed from the quarantine list and pleaded to her to get me out there! Once she gleaned what my requirements actually were Sharon got straight onto the case. Within just a few short minutes she had come back with a great 7 night break to Portimao, exactly what we were looking for. The flights, and hotel were just perfect, and she had the paperwork to me with plenty of time (along with a couple of masks and a bottle of hand sanitiser). The holiday was excellent, and I would not hesitate to ask Sharon for help in the future. "

"This Woman is amazing!! My Husband and I are both key workers and have had our holiday of a lifetime cancelled due to the coronavirus. We didn't even book our holiday through her but met her through business networking on Facebook. Sharon has gone above and beyond to do everything possible to help us rectify a difficult and stressful situation when the airline have refused to refund us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! We will book with you next time and know we are in safe hands xx"

"Once we had asked Sharon to help us find our holiday the hardest thing we had to do was make decisions! Sharon provided a range of opportunities that fitted our requirements and budget, which included a lot of the extras we just wouldn’t have found in budget, on our own. Sharon was available when convenient for us so we did not have to make a special trip to a travel agents and feel like we had to make a decision straight away. Sharon’s response time to messages is impressive and shows her commitment and care. We also have peace of mind that you have one person to contact for queries rather than waiting on the phone to call centres for each aspect of your holiday. We are grateful for Sharon’s hard work and attention to detail."

A bit more about me

What's the most enjoyable thing about your work?
Getting to share in the excitement of building amazing holiday itineraries for clients, although I usually end up wishing I was going with them by the time I have finished!

What is your vision for your business?
To be a solid, trusted and approachable business that provides the kind of service I would want to receive, and to give my clients the care and attention they deserve.

If you could give one single piece of advice to a new start up business, what would it be?
Don't try to run before you can walk, and be prepared for the challenges that will come, because they will come, but you can get through them. Oh, and take help if it is offered, don't be an island!

Which business person or company do you admire most and why?
I would have to say two, and they are both charities which provide support and care for life-limited children. The first is Children's Hospice South West, and the second is The Knights Foundation. Both Eddie and Jill Farwell who founded Children's Hospice South West and Nicky Banger, CEO of The Knights Foundation have personal experience of the need for the services that both charities provide, and have put their all into the respective businesses. To have huge challenges in life, and to still give 100% into a business which helps others is more inspiring than anything I can think of and I admire them immensely.

Which one phrase or quote sums up your attitude to business life?
I would like to think that I take heed of some great words by Sir Winston Churchill, who said "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."

What made you join WMB and how do you plan to make the most of the network?
I had several recommendations for joining from other Travel Counsellors who are members, and I couldn't ignore that amount of recommendation. I haven't been disappointed, the group meetings are so supportive and really informative, and I hope that I can help other members with their businesses, as much as they might with mine.

What do you do at week-ends?
My partner Derek and I like to go to live music events when we can, and sports events (we are both avid sports fans). I also love spending time chilling out in my garden, or with a good book, or taking lovely walks around the countryside on our doorstep.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 2 luxury items would you take?
A parasol and a never-ending book to read whilst sitting under it!

What book are you currently reading?
The Silver Music Box by Mina Baites

What book(s) would you recommend?
The Blue by Lucy Clarke. The Shadow of the Wind and The Angels Game, both by Carlos Ruis Zafon. Any Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett. The Hobbit and all of the Lord of the Rings books by J R R Tolkien. A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin.

What was your first ever job?
Greengrocer's Assistant on a market stall.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?
Goodness, how does a travel consultant answer that? I think I might have a new one every day! Truthfully though, it would have to be either Nepal or Cambodia, it would be hard to separate them, I loved both so much and the people of both countries were so amazingly warm, welcoming and resilient.
